One of the world's greatest inventions is the light bulb, a small object that has had a huge impact on humanity. The most important change it brought is represented by artificial light, the light without which today's society could not function at its best. Everything had a beginning, and so did this small product, over time it has continuously evolved ensuring our visual comfort, both day and night, in our homes, at work and on the street.
The first creation of the light bulb was made by Joseph Wilson Swan, but it had a defect in the internal vacuum, here comes another genius named Thomas Edison who improved Swan's idea, creating a filament for the light bulb, managing for the first time to create a light bulb that worked for an average of 40 hours. Edison continued to improve his creation until they worked for up to 600 hours, starting to be commercialized. Swan and Edison had a conflict over the creation of the light bulb, but in the end they allied themselves and founded the Edison-Swan United company, the largest light bulb manufacturing company.
Over time, this product has evolved, giving us today the opportunity to choose from a wide range of products. Below we will list the types of bulbs and their characteristics so that we can get a better idea of them and know which is more beneficial to purchase.
The incandescent filament bulb is the oldest light bulb that has appeared and is the completed creation of Thomas Edison. It works by heating a metal filament until it reaches the incandescence point. They are also the most accessible and widespread bulbs, they have a simple use system, can be used for both indoor and outdoor lighting and can operate with both direct and alternating current. The main disadvantage is the high consumption of 60W -100W, given that the efficiency and lifespan are low, operating on average 1200 hours.
Halogen bulbs are similar in structure to incandescent bulbs, the difference being the presence of halogen in the bulb. They last longer and the intensity of the light produced is greater than that of classic bulbs , also their size is smaller and can be used for more purposes. The major disadvantage is the presence of halogen, which is a dangerous element for humans, as well as the slightly higher cost than that of classic bulbs.
LED bulbs have become much more popular lately, they convert electrical energy only to certain parameters, necessary for operation. They can be used for indoor and outdoor lighting , have a long lifespan, 50,000 hours, are designed with high quality materials and have low energy consumption, 3W -20W, and a faster lighting efficiency than classic bulbs. As a disadvantage we have the high price of the product and the fact that it emits a directional light.
Energy-saving bulbs have a structure similar to classic ones, and they can replace them. They have a longer lifespan, 8000 hours, and lower electricity consumption, 13W - 55W. The disadvantages are the high price of the products, the possibility of containing materials such as mercury, and the need for additional circuits for proper operation.
Thus, LED bulbs take first place with low energy consumption, quality materials and a long lifespan, followed by energy-saving and incandescent bulbs , while halogen bulbs are not recommended for our daily use due to their halogen content.
Light bulbs are the way we bring light into our homes, but lighting fixtures are the ones that give us the opportunity to put our personal touch on our homes and offices. In the Alessandro Design range you will find a multitude of such fixtures, modern, vintage, classic that will bring a splash of color to your everyday life.
Apart from the aesthetic beauty of these products, they also come with the possibility of having a single light source and up to 6 sources or 12 light sources, depending on your needs. There are also chandeliers that can be controlled by remote control, but also those with a classic switch , they are able to emit warm , cold or neutral light , on different intensity levels to ensure visual comfort regardless of the time of day and season.
